About Project

We were delighted to be part of the development of а formerly windowless un-insulated space inside this 19th century water tower into a modern and comfortable area.

Located above a 4th floor warehouse loft apartment this water tower had been accessed via a tiny headroom-restricted spiral set of stairs, with onwards access to the roof. This area was then similarly compromised and largely over-scaled steel escape stair which had taken up virtually the entire double height volume.

The objective of this project was therefore to appropriate the underutilised volume of the tower in order to create additional living space for the apartment below as part of a comfortable and light-drenched circulation route to a roof-top terrace in the redundant water tank above.

With refurbished structures like this, the challenge is to keep the originality of the architecture and it’s history, while still turning it into a stylish liveable area for the owners.
