About Project
This was an interesting and contemporary refurbishment and extension of a Victoria villa on a private estate. The challenge was to connect the complex house vertically. The house didn’t have connection or continuity to its wonderful garden, and had been poorly renovated over the years.
We extended the building with a brick and glass building, rationalised the rear elevation to tidy it up, and worked out a simple way of connecting the lower ground floor to the rest of the house by reorganising the circulation.
This charming villa became a modern and iconic, while still keeping the key elements that left the history of the building in place. The addition of glass around key points of the house opened up the areas for natural light to enter, giving it more charisma and modern characteristics. Even though the staircase is buried deep within the house elements natural light with bright artificial light still gave the majestic staircase a welcoming appeal.
